Grade 4:
At the start of the year up to the Winter Break, students in Grade 4 will participate in singing, movement, playing the recorder, the study of Marching Band instruments, light discussion of classical music and the "composer of the month", beginning music terminology, beginning theory notation, playing percussion instruments, learning about music of Ireland and Scotland and participating in cross-cirricular theatrical study with Mrs. Bruno involving her language arts program of the book, "Sarah Plain and Tall" as well as having a strong presence in Winterfest.
Grade 4 will be performing "Vampire Cowboy" at assembly on Wednesday, October 29, 2008. Students may wear cowboy/cowgirl attire. I have cowboy hats and bandanas they can use. They be singing at our Grandparents Day assembly on November 14th, and singing with grades 5 & 6 at assembly on November 19th. WINTERFEST PERFORMANCES - DECEMBER 18, 10:30 A.M. AND 7:00 P.M. GRADE 4 WILL BE SWORD/STAR DANCERS.
Grade 5:
At the start of the year up to the Winter Break, students in Grade 5 will participate in singing, playing the recorder, the study of instruments, light discussion of classical music and the "composer of the month", using music terminology, playing percussion instruments, learning about Rhythm and Blues music and have a strong presence in Winterfest.
Grade 5 will be performing a song with grade 7, "What Would You Do?" at assembly on November 5th. Students should wear school uniforms for the performance. WINTERFEST PERFORMANCES - DECEMBER 18, 10:30 A.M. AND 7:00 P.M. GRADE 5 WILL BE MORRIS DANCERS.
Grade 6:
At the start of the year up to Winter Break, students in grade 6 will participate in singing, playing the recorder, the study of classical music and composers, playing Orff barred instruments, music composition, strong emphasis on the study of Broadway musicals, drama and have an active role in Winterfest.
Students in grade 6 will be performing a Recorder song at Assembly on Wednesday, November 19, 2008. They will also sing a song called "Cranberries" at this assembly with grades 4 & 5.
WINTERFEST PERFORMANCES - DECEMBER 18, 10:30 A.M. AND 7:00 P.M. GRADE 6 WILL BE TOWNSPEOPLE, RIVER SCENE SINGERS, DANCERS AND ACTORS.
Grade 7:
Every year for our Winterfest Production, the King(s) and the Queen(s) are selected from 7th grade students who have attended Unquowa School the longest. Last year's Winterfest, the theme was a Surprise, and one king and one queen were quite the royal figures. This year there will be one king and two queens.
Students in grade 7 will begin the start of their performing arts year with strong emphasis on the study of music in the movies, singing, playing the recorder, Orff barred instruments and percussion instruments, light discussion of classical music and composers, theory, music terminology, drama including the study of commercials and have an active role in Winterfest.
Grade 7 will sing the song, "What Would You Do?" with grade 5, at assembly, November 5, 2008. Students should wear school uniforms for the performance.
WINTERFEST PERFORMANCES - DECEMBER 18, 10:30 A.M. AND 7:00 P.M. GRADE 7 WILL BE ACTORS, DANCERS, PROP AND TECH CREW.
Grade 8:
Students in grade 8 will begin their performing arts year with active participation in putting together a "rock band", playing the recorder and various percussion and Orff Barred Instruments, studying Shakespeare and developing mini-skits to rehearse and perform in class and possibly at Assembly, singing and acting.
8A will perform their interpretation of "The Trout" at Assembly on 10-22. Students need to be dressed for their character and bring props.
